Tyler MUNIS/ERP Project – Stakeholder Kick-Off

Posted on August 9, 2024

We are excited to announce that we have kicked-off our Citywide (Tyler) ERP conversion project!

As current users of Eden, you are  invited to participate in a Stakeholder Kick-Off Meeting scheduled for Tuesday 8/27 (10:15-11:30) where our project team will provide an overview of the project to transition to the Tyler MUNIS/ERP platform, and your role in this effort.

What is Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) project? Why are we making this change?

Since 2002, the City has used Eden from Tyler Technologies as our Enterprise Resource Planning System (ERP) for financial and human resources recordkeeping and reporting. The ERP system supports our general ledger, purchasing, invoicing, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, budgeting, personnel management, and more. Tyler Technologies will no longer support our existing Eden platform, beginning March 2027.

As our City’s financial and administrative needs have evolved, we need a modern system to support the City’s day-to-day business operations. This is our opportunity to streamline procedures and adopt consistent and best business practices that will sustain the long-term operational needs of the City. The new Tyler MUNIS/ERP system will support improved accounting, budgeting, financial management and reporting, as well as strengthen internal controls. Properly designed, the new ERP system will also reduce staff time for cumbersome administrative processes and facilitate transition to paperless processes for purchase orders, invoicing, contract administration, project and grant tracking, as well as payroll and human resources administration.

The Tyler MUNIS/ERP project is a major undertaking and represents a significant investment on the part of the City. The project is scheduled to be implemented over the next 18 months, with a target “go-live” dates of July 1, 2025, for the Financial System, and January 1, 2026, for the Payroll/Human Resource Management System (HRMS).

What does this mean for you?

This implementation requires a coordinated effort of City staff, to include executive leadership, management and operational and administrative personnel. Whether you are identified as a Power User, Functional Lead, or Department Director, your role in this project will be to provide insight into current processes, identify priority areas for process improvements, and ensure that new processes are configured as efficiently as possible.  Our goal is to ensure that the new ERP system balances citywide objectives with operational needs of each department.

The Stakeholder Kick-off meeting will provide an overview of the fully integrated Tyler ERP platform, highlight project goals and objectives, and review the project schedule and key milestones. We will also focus on expectations of staff from across all City departments necessary to ensure a successful project implementation and maximize short- and long-term functionality of the new ERP system.

If you have any questions about this virtual meeting, please email our Project Manager, Catherine Holmes catherine.holmes@cityofsanrafael.org.
