Municipal Clerks Week: One of the Oldest Government Professions

Posted on May 6, 2019

MCW: Trivia 1

The municipal clerk, along with the tax collector, is the oldest of public servants. The Office of Clerk can be traced back to the year 1272 A.D. in the history of the Corporation of Old London. Before writing came into use, Clerks were called remembrancers.

Their memory served as the public record!

Here is your first trivia question:

Who was the Town Clerk of the Town of San Rafael 145 years ago in 1874?

All who submit an answer will have their names included in a drawing for a prize on Friday, May 10th.

Party with #clerklife tomorrow!

Don’t forget to swing by our office at City Hall in Room 209 from 9:30 – 11:30 for some snacks & throwbacks! https://employees.cityofsanrafael.org/event/municipal-clerks-week-snacks-and-throwbacks/
