San Rafael Fire Chief Officers’ Association (SRFCOA) Employee Group Benefits

This list is not exhaustive of all benefits for the SRFCOA employee group.

Visit the Memorandum of Understanding to read in detail about all benefits. The current MOU covers July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2027.

Health Benefits

Medical City group health coverage, with the City paying a fixed dollar amount (below) toward the cost of the monthly insurance premium. Option to opt-out and receive $300 cash-in-lieu, with proof of other insurance.

  • Employee only: $950.00
  • Employee plus one: $1,900.00
  • Family: $2,400.00

Dental Premium fully paid for employee plus eligible dependents.

  • 7.5 hours per month – Employees working a 37.5-hour work week
  • 12 hours per month – Employees working a 56-hour work week
Holidays 13 paid City holidays (Employees working a 37.5-hour work week receive 12 paid City holidays and 1 floating holiday)
Bereavement Up to 5 days paid leave
Paid Parental Leave (if eligible) Up to 300 hours paid leave
End of Life Care Leave Up to 80 hours paid leave

Marin County Retirement System

(MCERA)

Enrollment in the MCERA pension plan, a defined benefit retirement program

Safety Members

  • Tier 2 (hired on or after 7/1/2011): 3% @ 55, Average of 3 highest years
  • Tier 3 PEPRA (hired on or after 1/1/2013): 2.7% @ 57, Average of 3 highest years

Non-Safety Members

  • Tier 2 (hired on or after 7/1/2011): 2% @ 55, Average of 3 highest years
  • Tier 3 PEPRA (hired on or after 1/1/2013): 2% @ 62, Average of 3 highest years

Insurance Coverage

Life Insurance/AD&D $150,000 Life Insurance policy and $150,000 AD&D benefit
Long Term Disability 66.67% of salary up to $7,500 per month

Additional Benefits

Deferred Compensation The City will make a monthly contribution of 0.83% of base salary to a deferred compensation plan
Uniform Allowance $805.00 at the completion of each six months of service ending June 1st and December 1st. See MOU for more details
Boot Allowance Up to $160 every two fiscal years for a boot allowance
Bilingual Pay (if eligible) Up to $250 per month

The SRFCOA employee group does not contribute to  Social Security.
