San Rafael Firefighters’ Association (SRFA) Employee Group Benefits

This list is not exhaustive of all benefits for the SFRA employee group.

Visit the Memorandum of Understanding to read in detail about all benefits. The current MOU covers July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2027.

Health Benefits

Medical City group health coverage, with the City paying a fixed dollar amount (below) toward the cost of the monthly insurance premium. Option to opt-out and receive $300 cash-in-lieu, with proof of other insurance.

  • Employee only: $950.00
  • Employee plus one: $1,900.00
  • Family: $2,400.00

  • 8 hours per month – Employees working a 40-hour work week
  • 12 hours per month – Employees working a 56-hour work week

Paid Parental Leave (if eligible) Up to 300 hours paid leave. SRMMEA employees also contribute to State Disability Insurance (SDI)

Marin County Retirement System

(MCERA)

Enrollment in the MCERA pension plan, a defined benefit retirement program

Safety Members

  • Tier 2 (hired on or after 7/1/2011): 3% @ 55, Average of 3 highest years
  • Tier 3 PEPRA (hired on or after 1/1/2013): 2.7% @ 57, Average of 3 highest years

Non-Safety Members

  • Tier 2 (hired on or after 7/1/2011): 2% @ 55, Average of 3 highest years
  • Tier 3 PEPRA (hired on or after 1/1/2013): 2% @ 62, Average of 3 highest years

Insurance Coverage

Life Insurance/AD&D $5,000 Life Insurance policy and $5,000 AD&D benefit

Additional Benefits

Uniform Allowance $567.50 at the completion of each six months of service ending May 31 and November 30. See MOU for more details
Bilingual Pay (if eligible) Up to $250 per month
Specialty Compensation Pay amounts vary by certification/position (Paramedic certification, Paramedic Liaison, EMT/Ambulance Drivers, etc.), as detailed in the MOU

The SRFA employee group does not contribute to  Social Security.
