Together San Rafael Learning Lab

A “learn-by-doing” program of cross-departmental teams learning and practicing techniques for collaborative problem solving. Employees will work together to design solutions for real work challenges.

Some concrete skills you’ll learn include:

  • Project management
  • Researching and testing solutions
  • Communication, facilitation and presentation skills

Learning Lab 3.0: Implementation and Experimentation

Teams will be given one day per month to work together on putting ideas into action, learning, and making improvements based on feedback.

What's different this year?

This year, the Learning Lab will be taking on existing projects and issues. The structure is changing a bit. Rather than based on a curriculum, instead we are creating more space and time for cross-departmental teams to develop, refine, and implement ideas. From September to May, teams will meet monthly.

Challenge Topics:

  • Cross-departmental permits
  • Housing
  • Spanish-language engagement
  • Paperless forms and electronic signatures

Some employees have already been identified to work on these topics, based on their job. There are remaining spots on each team to be filled. If you are interested, please fill out this form and indicate the team you’d like to join.

Wild card

Each month we will have one spot reserved at the Learning Lab for a Wildcard Team. A Wildcard Team is a group of 2 or more employees who want one day to work on a small project. The idea is that the project is small enough where one day away from your desk would help you make significant progress. To be considered for one of these spots, talk to your department director.
