HOW TO USE A DROP BAG TO HOIST A DRY HOSELINE ALOFT

  1. Firefighter ascends to above ground  
    • Calls warning before dropping bag 
    • Drops rope bag 
  2. Firefighter 2 on ground 
    • Has prepared hose for hoisting 
  3. Tie off hose with rope  
    • Using appropriate knot 
      • Hewitt knot (slip knot) and half hitch through bale 
    • Tends tag line  
  4. Firefighter 1 hoists hose line aloft  
    • Hand over hand 
  5. Firefighter 1 unties knot  
    • From hose coupling/nozzle 
  6. Firefighter 1 pulls required hose aloft 
  7. Firefighter 1 secures hose  
    • With hose strap 
      • Under coupling if possible 
      • Larks foot to hose 
      • Clove hitch to railing or tool 
  8. Firefighter 1 flakes out hose  
    • Remove kinks 
    • Prepare for advancement 
  9. Firefighter 1 calls for water  
    • Clear kinks 
    • Bleed nozzle and set pattern
