HOW TO SHOULDER LOAD AND CARRY A WORKING LINE

  1. Take Position 
    • On ground (FF1) 
    • Back to hose bed 
    • On Tailboard (FF2) 
  2. Grasp Nozzle (FF2) 
    • Hand to FF1 
    • Nozzle facing down 
    • Chest high 
  3. Load Hose line (FF2) 
    • On shoulder of FF1 
    • Flat 
    • Fold behind knee 
    • Fold front at waist 
    • Continue folding front and rear of body until 50-75’ of hose is loaded 
  4. FF1 Steps Away 
    • Walks 6-8 feet to rear of tailboard 
  5. FF3 Takes Position 
    • On ground 
    • Back to tailboard 
  6. Load Hose Line (FF2) 
    • On shoulder of FF3 
    • Flat 
    • Fold behind knee 
    • Fold front at waist 
    • Continue folding front and rear of body until section of hose line is loaded 
  7. Load Hose line (FF2) 
    • As necessary with additional firefighters 
  8. Break Coupling (FF2) 
    • Place male in hose bed 
    • Connect female to discharge 
  9. Proceed to Destination 
    • Hose line must payoff of shoulder to rear 
    • Flake out hose, remove kinks 
  10.  Call for Water 
    • Verbally, visually or on radio
