HOW TO MAKE A HYDRANT LDH (FORWARD HOSE LAY)
- Command “Make the Hydrant” is given by the Officer
- Firefighter leaves riding position and goes to the tailboard
- Fastening device for appliance is removed
- Remove hydrant appliance
- Place one arm through the hydrant strap
- Remove appliance with both hands and carry to hydrant, place on ground
- Place hydrant strap on hydrant
- Signal for the engine to “take off”
- Verbally and visually signal by shouting “take off” with a forward hand movement
- Stand clear of hose in case of hang up with supply hose
- Remove fitting bag
- Obtain hydrant wrench and necessary fittings
- Remove cap from selected outlet
- Using hydrant wrench
- Place cap on top of hydrant (bonnet)
- Place hydrant wrench on stem
- Place appliance on hydrant
- For 4 ½” outlet, lift appliance and steady while rotating swivel clockwise
- For 2 ½” outlet, connect 2 ½” to 4 ½” increaser to hydrant first, lift appliance and steady while rotating swivel clockwise
- Unclip hydrant strap
- Clear strap from hydrant, leave attached to hose to remove kinks if necessary
- Receive signal for water
- Verbally from the engine
- Verbally by radio
- Visually if you can see clamp in place
- Charge hydrant
- Slowly turn on all the way then back ¼ turn
- Remove kinks at hydrant
- Follow supply line to engine
