HOW TO ADVANCE AN UNCHARGED HOSELINE UP A GROUND LADDER

  1. Firefighter takes position 
    • Near base of ladder 
    • Hose line near ladder base 
    • On same side as window opening 
  2. Place hose line 
    • Across chest 
    • Over shoulder 
    • Nozzle resting mid back 
  3. Climb ladder 
    • Keeping hose line to one side of feet 
    • Using both hands for climbing 
    • Hose should not cross ladder rungs 
  4. Firefighter lays nozzle down  
    • In window 
    • Before entering 
  5. Firefighter enters window 
    • Sounds floor with foot 
  6. Pull hose line into window 
    • Required amount 
  7. Secure hose line 
    • With hose strap 
      • Below coupling 
      • With larks foot 
    • Under beam of ladder 
    • Over rung of ladder 
    • Around next beam higher of ladder 
    • Secure with hook on strap 
      • Beam lower on ladder 
  8. Flake out hose 
    • Ensure no kinks will form 
  9. Call for water 
    • Bleed air and check nozzle pattern
