Key Operational Points of Pulling Transverse Flat Loaded 1 ½” Hose

  1. Be sure nozzle gallonage is set for appropriate flow
  2. Use hose pulling technique that is most appropriate for situation. Methods may include a straight pull, loops for dragging, or shoulder Loading.
  3. Hose length can vary from 50 to 400 feet

Key Operational Points of Pulling 2 ½” Working Line

  1. Pre determine how many loops should be pulled of the first 150ft.
  2. Neatness counts when laying hose on the ground.
  3. Advancing (Stretching) working line is generally a multiple Firefighter effort.

Key Operational Points of Shoulder Loading 2 ½” Working Line

  1. This requires a loader on the tailboard
  2. Each firefighter should carry a minimum of 50 feet, but not more 75 feet
  3. Leave 6-8 feet of hose between firefighters, hose should not drag on the ground
  4. Hose should pay off of the firefighter closest the engine first

  1. The first bundle with the gated wye should be pulled first
  2. Bundles should be carried centered on your shoulder
  3. Use the color code when shutting off a bundle at the wye
